About Me
Danny James
Danny James grew up in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois where he was exposed at an early age to rhythm and blues music as well as jazz music, and began playing the piano at the age of 5. Throughout the years, he had many playing and performing opportunities including singing and accompanying the Greater Chicago Youth Chorale as they toured Europe in the summer of 1994. In 1996, he was a participant in the Illinois All-State Choir and All-District Jazz Band.
In the summer of 1996, Danny moved along with his parents up to Calgary, Alberta Canada which is where he now resides. When he moved up, he immediately auditioned for and was accepted into the Young Canadian School of Performing Arts and subsequently performed in the 1997 and 1998 Grandstand Show, the “Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.” During this time, he was also able to contribute to the group by playing piano for the many ballet classes in progress. In November 2000, Danny took a leave of absence from music for two years to ‘find’ himself and rediscover his muse and inspiration. In the summer of 2002, he auditioned for and was accepted into Grant Macewan College in Edmonton, Alberta Canada as a jazz piano major. He graduated in 2004 and immediately found himself working for Holland America Cruise Line in the capacity of music director.
Danny has performed in more than 14 countries, including Austria, Germany, Norway, Mexico, Italy, and the United States. He is currently teaching piano lessons in Calgary after serving as onboard Music Director for Holland America Cruise Line for the past two years, where he conducted shows for such established acts as Paul Tanner, Joel Mason, and Eddie Holman. Danny is excited about being in Calgary and working on a variety of projects, including getting his website completed and recording his debut album.
